They are not free - someone will pay for them whether it be your ins co, your parents ins co, or the taxpayer if you don't have ins. So not free.

I happen to know that those pregnancy tests, for urine, cost about $75. That's in a rural hospital, in MO. How do I know this? I run them. They are anything but free.
