I just graduated after getting my BA (with high grades, too) and I've been applying for every single job imaginable- cleaning, fast-food, whatever- I don't give a damn, I'd do anything, and I'm on unemployment. Getting a job is HARD. Especially if you don't already have a job. You are on a pedestal. Get down off it and realise your life is hard, but that doesn't make everyone else's easy.
While I won't put you down, I find you to be on a pedestal. Unemployment is there for a reason and it is paid for by employers. Look it up. If you choose not to use it that's fine but do not judge someone else because they do. This person might have made it sound like they will drink it all away but when bills come do they won't be drinking. Calm down and enjoy your own life.

I am on unemployment. I was not aware my job was at risk when I lost it. It is the economy as it is that has caused this situation. The company that lets you go who pays, at least in GA. Continued- however help lend an amount time to find a job you like instead of picking up the first opportunity that can leave you again jobless. People are not awarded unemployment when fired unless done so wrongfully by their employers. Sticking up for yourself is a beautiful thing. I'll toast to that!

You paid taxes the whole time you were employed (and you still are) and your employer paid unemployment insurance. You are not taking money out of anyone's pocket by being on unemployment. In fact, you and your friend maybe opened up two positions for people in need of work.
