secondly, prohibition (when alcohol was illegal) just made the situation worse... and people drank anyway. weed should be legalized, not only for all the obvious advantages (being able to tax it, fewer strains on the legal system), but because people will do it regardless.
Pot is not a gateway drug. The only reason it has been portrayed as such is that because of its accessibility, it is very likely that someone who has done "harder" drugs, has also smoked marijuana. Unless a person already has a predisposition to try harder drugs, they're no more likely to try them if they have smoked marijuana or not. Just because someone tries marijuana, doesn't mean they will try other drugs. However, it is likely that if someone has done other drugs, they have done marijuana.

I agree with the suggestion to make pot legal and tax it. Making it legal would make it cheaper (greater supply, since legality removes the risk involved in its production), thus the addition of taxes wouldn't actually alter the price consumers pay. It seems like a win-win solution if you ask me...the people who continue to keep it illegal are just pandering to the close minded conservatives who are misinformed about oh so much...
