People are people, and can choose to learn what languages they please.
Go anywhere else in the world with a big city and i bet you will find a plethera of people who speak multiple languages. In lebanon for example people either speak Arabic and French or Arabic and English, and sometimes all three. Penelope Cruz speaks english just fine, and she is still making more money than we are. Though i do believe that if you are living in the USA you should learn english, but the same goes for anywhere else, if you move to China, learn Chinese. Life is a little easier that way.
