oh, it does get the smell. maybe it's just because i'm a girl or whatever, but it never gets nearly as bad as the guys on my team. i go through a lot of febreeze and stick dryer sheets in everything. it helps.
ok i am also a girl who plays ice hockey, and i would just like to say that i have never, ever had this problem. it's not that difficult to keep the equpiment clean.

you can actually put a used tampon in a small cup of water and free it and the whole thing will taste like it when it's done. it's really good as long as you freeze it fresh out the coot.

If your equipment doesnt get dirty and that smell then your definatly not playing hard enough. My gear smells horrible and i try and clean it all the time.
