Well, I found the bug. Looks like we assume that the data is format "2" when it is actually already format "1" This leads to the message and bail-out because this is an illegal state change in this context.
I think this is funny because if you're a social person who goes to parties a lot there's always that one person. Or there's that one person that always shows up at a party even though no one invited him PARTY FOUL
