I love my cats but I do occasionly use a spray bottle with water in it to get them of the counters or table. I don't think it's cruel, but what the op did is.
Have you ever seen that video of the guy being attacked by the cat he was trying to put up for adoption? The cat attacked the shit out of him and made him get stitches on his ballsack, so cats are insane when they want to be...
Spraying a cat with water isn't an effective way to rid a pet of dander. I suggest brushing him well with a soft bristle brush twice daily and vacuuming any carpeting regularly!

it IS animal cruelty because it makes the creature upset, yet the abuser continues to do it. cats are instinctively impartial to water, as they cannot and should not swim, hence their obvious sensitivity towards it. what if someone pouring windex on your skin? it wouldn't kill you, but it would be a huge fucking bother, right?
