The main reason for the rampant spread of AIDS in the '80's was due to the fact that the disease was discovered then. People didn't know what exactly happened. At first, it was assumed that the disease was just a super strain of the flu. But as more information came about and the disease started showing itself in different ways, it became clear how dangerous the disease was.
