• So. Gills actually work by filtering dissolved oxygen out of water. While vodka is about 60% water, there's not a whole lot of dissolved oxygen floating around. Therefore, fishy would asphixiate. \n\nHowever, apparently fish can't process alcohol well - it's poisonous to them anyway.\nSources: wikipedia - look up oxygenation, gills, vodka.
