      • Thujone isn't an opiate though. And in any event, there's not enough thujone in *any* absinthe sold anywhere in the world to cause psychoactive effects. What was referred to as "absinthism" at the turn of the 20th century was nothing but plain old drunkenness and alcoholism. Absinthe suffered because of the people who drank it--artists and writers and other bohemians.
