• I think mj007 may have been joking. I hope? And I also hope R_R is joking or simply happened to choose his/her words very poorly. Skin is not "water proof" (sweat, anyone?) however one of its functions is certainly to help regulate fluid loss/intake in the body.

  • Look up phospholipid bilayers. Made to be water proof but they still actively transport intersticial fluids through the cell wall. There us a hydrophobic and a hydrophelic layer but it has to get fluids in. try per rectum fast, effective and more efficient.

  • Moving a significant amount through the inisticial spaces, and perfusing though the blood stream to major organs would take longer than 30 seconds. Put a shit on your skin, and cover it with tegaderm or a plastic wrap so it cannot evaporate and see what happens.
