Both, actually. The idea that acid stays in your spine is a myth, thanks to a DEA claim back in the 80s. LSD flushes out of your system hours after tripping, a day or two max I believe.\n\nHowever, there definitely has been evidence of a psychological cause of flashbacks. Seeing something that reminds you of the trip, or some aspect from the trip, can bring back other ties to the trip. Much like a PTSD victim presented with something that reminds them of their trauma.
It's a fact.. Some people never get them though. Some people can get them several times..they can even occur 20 years after you dropped acid. There has been a case about a surgeon who mid-surgery had a flashback. Also a pilot who had a flashback while landing a plane, luckily his copilot was able to land it for him. There's really no predicting flashbacks and for some people some of the side effects of acid stay with them for the rest of their lives
I have seen my share of sparkly shit since my first indulgences in the early 80's, so i would say flashbacks definitely exist. Its like a scrapbook for your mind of awesone trips gone by!
