  • Actually, I am a med student, and liver damage can cause a backup of blood. When it cannot get through the liver, the blood backs up into anastomoses with systemic veins, one system of which are the esophageal veins. Those veins then get too much blood in them and form esophageal varices -- if those rupture, the person vomits blood. It is a classic sign of liver damage. \nLook it up.
